Teifi Farmhouse Cheese

A wonderful mix of creamy Welsh milk
and Dutch expertise has created the
award-winningcombination that is Teifi Farmhouse Cheese.

Established in 1982 by cheesemakers John and Patrice Savage-Onstwedder and Paula van Werkhoven who moved to Glynhynod Farm near Llandysul from their native Holland, Teifi Farmhouse Cheese has become a leading light in the world of artisan cheesemaking.

Using locally sourced raw (unpasteurised) milk the True Taste and World Cheese award-winners produce twelve different types of cheese including its flagship cheeses: Teifi, Celtic Promise and Saval.

Teifi Original is a Gouda style cheese, with a dense, smooth and creamy texture. Its mellow, slightly sweet flavour becomes deeper and richer with age and when very mature develops characteristics similar to Parmesan cheese. Teifi is also available with Seaweed (Laverbread), Nettles, Cumin Seed, and Sweet Pepper.

Celtic Promise is a Caerphilly type washed-rind cheese with a slightly moist, orange-red rind. Soft and buttery as it matures it develops a slightly pungent aroma and has a delicate, mild flavour creating a delicious contrast with the rind.

Saval is a larger (2kg) and more mellow and hearty version of Celtic Promise, and is winner of the highest award in British artisan cheesemaking - The James Aldridge Memorial Trophy for Best British Raw Milk Cheese, awarded by the Specialist Cheesemakers Association.

The Blue Teifi is a continental style creamy blue cheese with distinct blue green moulds. It has a mild flavour but develops with age.

Teifi Farmhouse Cheeses are sold at farmer’s markets and throughout the UK at specialist artisan cheese shops, delis and some export.
